I recently bought Burnout:Revenge for the paltry sum of £2.  It was in a bundle (Burnout, Sega Classics and Red Faction2) that I originally bought to get RF2.  Red Faction turned out to be rubbish - not a patch on the original game and the Sega Classics are a great source of inspiration for Excel games (especially since there's 3 Phantasy Stars on there).

Burnout is the game that stands out.  Sitting in the dark, not 2 feet from the screen I booted it up and was immediately rewarded with eye-watering colours, great sounds and blistering speed.  It really is one of the best games I played from 2009 and I'm thinking of getting the next one for more of the same great action.

I picked up a few titles last year.

My favourite by far was fallout 3.  I loved the ruined DC area and the quests were quite varied and even the main game was really involving. I loved it so much a bought the GOTY edition late last year just to get all the DLC.

My bargain of the year was Left 4 Dead, which I found in a bargain bin in ASDA for £10! I thought it was surely a mistake, but it came through at that price at the till. Great game too.

My stupid moment of the year was buying capcom v snk before checking it was compatible with the 360.

Absolutely, Fallout 3 for me too. It was a christmas present for my brother. I was expecting another FPS game, which I don't like, but I started playing anyway and really couldn't pull myself away from it!

You can find some pretty funny videos of Fallout 3 from here...

I too picked up Left 4 Dead at a stupidly cheap price - should've really checked the specs required though.

Haven't managed to play it yet - the pc really can't cope with it.

Another great game from last year (though not on PC) was Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.  This GTA version put the fun back into the series.  GTA4 seemed a little po-faced compared to the lunacy of Vice City and San Andreas.  For once, the touchscreen parts seemed integral to the game and not just bolted on.  The style of the graphics was excellent, harking back to the originals.

My only gripe is that the sounds were a bit feeble, but then it is only on the DS - not renowned for it's audio capabilities.

If you like Fallout 3, you should definitetly try the "oldies" Fallaout 1 & 2. Especially, Fallout 1, while rather compact, is conisdered by many hardcore rpg-fans as a excellent example of proper rpg design.

I didn't have much time to play recent months, but I tried "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic" - nice first person slasher, some levels and monsters are very well designed. Few days ago I picked "Titan Quest" - interesting Diablo clone, but seems too linear to me (compared to Sacred). But the idea to base game theme on the Greek Mythology is very cool  Smiley
